Depression/Stress
Depression affects around 20% of people at some stage of their lives and affects around 121 million people worldwide. It doesn't discriminate between race, ethnicity, income or gender and most importantly it is NOT a sign of personal weakness.
Many events in life can cause depression and stress such as moving house, marriage, pregnancy, divorce, bereavement, disappointment, financial problems, high workloads, bullying, unrealistic deadlines/insufficient workloads etc.
Some symptoms of depression and stress include:
- constant sadness or of not being yourself
- exhaustion and/or feeling overwhelmed with life
- loss of sexual appetite
- anxiety
- a feeling of hopelessness
- loneliness or a fear of social situations
- guilt, lack of confidence, increased anger
- difficulty in concentration
- a feeling that life is passing you by
- loss of interest in friends
- becoming withdrawn and irritable
- jealousy, anger and envy
- sleeping problems
- increased use of alcohol/nicotine
- impulsive behaviour
- uncontrollable crying
- a feeling of being a failure
- feeling out of control
